Jimbo and Jones: Where it Went Wrong

Our flaws are two-fold: we lack sufficient narcissism and we lead boring lives. One or both of these conditions must change for the blog to succeed.

Our Very Own Blog: A More Boring Endeavor Than I Had Expected

James,
I have come to realize that I will never make money blogging. I don't like it.

Call me, we need a new idea on how to get rich.

Into the Blue: A Better Film Than I Expected

I recently purchased Into the Blue, a Paul Walker/Jessica Alba flick that quickly faded away when it came out. I bought it based purely on the fact it cost two dollars and my dad thought he could trade up with it through his Peerflicks account. I thought it was going to be really stupid with a few decent scenes, but it surprised me by being decent with a few really stupid scenes. Paul Walker's less-than-stellar career has not impressed me, but he manages not to drag this flick down the way he did Fast and the Furious. I have to admit that I'm also a Scott Caan fan, though I didn't know he was in this until I watched it. The movie is about a poor (though apparently not so poor as to be unable to afford a gym membership whose use he maximizes) salvager in the Bahamas (Walker) and his girlfriend (Alba) who, along with a friend (Caan) and said friend's bimbo (some chick) get involved in an operation salvaging a treasure that happens to be on the ocean bottom next to the wreckage of a drug-trafficking plane. Needless to say, there are bad guys, fights, guys without shirts on, and babes in bikinis populating the film from beginning to end. What surprised me was how relatively coherent and well-shot the film was. The cinematography was gorgeous, and the underwater scenes were shot really well--they left you with a good understanding of where everything was and what was going on. The story was interesting, and the writing was better than expected. The acting was slightly sub-par, but I've found that the cheaper I purchase a film, the more easily it enters my good graces, so I'm going to go ahead and rate it a "buy it if you see it for two dollars" on a scale of one to ten.
To answer your question, Jones, I have to admit I've only seen a few parts of Shaun of the Dead, and was not terribly impressed while I thoroughly enjoyed Hot Fuzz, which I will probably see again. The sheer over-the-topness of the end made up for any predictability, as did the phrase "Judge, Judy, and executioner."

Jones Checking In

I just got back from Hot Fuzz at the dollar theater. I thought it was pretty funny. I particularly liked the fat cop's explanation for why the guy in the purple jogging suit had his hat down over his face. Though I've heard the term "fugly" over and over again I found the more explicit term much funnier. "Shaun of the Dead" is now at the top of my Netflix queue. Which of the two movies did you dig more?
Gotta go, Iron Chef is on.

Welcome

Welcome to the grand beginning of Jimbo and Jones, a record of the perceptive and persuasive musings and occasional altercations of a couple of dudes in college.
